Day 8. Big Blunder & Giveaway

challenge_graphic-650-october

Hello Friends, Well… I did film a video of my watercoloring with distress inks blunder but, it’s just not worth watching and the phone was ringing and I was flat! I messed up my watercoloring from yesterday and then this!! NOT a happy camper BUT I do have a giveaway today! 🙂

IMG_0424

Thank goodness I was able to save this one and hopefully I will save my other big mistake…it’s bigger lol. When I do I will share the process.

I masked off a circle/moon & applied distress inks around the circle. Holding the stencil down carefully I added more distress ink . I used this stamp and this one. (in case you ask this is the die cut for the bird)

IMG_0420

A litte FYI..when you are watercoloring keep your mat clean. I was picking up color from my kraft mat and mushed it on my paper with my finders :(. The paper was to wet to remove or water it down. Yes, it was one of those days.

IMG_0421

So I cut the it all out and wanted to show you the way I cut in between the legs and glued them back together.

IMG_0423

Added some accents with a few colored pencils.

IMG_0425

This is the stencil I used. The distress inks I used for the background were Peacock Feather and Salty Ocean.

GIVEWAY!  a $25.00 Gift Certificate to the Hero Arts Store. A random winner will be picked on OCt. 14th.

Have a happy day and see you tomorrow. Hugs, Kathy

So glad you were able to save it Kathy, I have been there too often to not know the pain when you realise what has happened and that it cant be fixed. Today I was colouring another Mo’s image and by the time ai fixed my mistakes when cutting the card front had shrunk considerably. In your instance being able to save the main work and image meant a beautiful remake. Loving the challenge and checking out all the cards. Keep up the good work petal.

I’m glad it’s not just me! My main mistake is getting mucky fingers from stamp cleaner and cleaning pads and then smudges….. 🙁 Still I love how you managed to save it. Thank you for the giveaway chance. Am recovering from over doing it with my Cooic colouring and hope to get a little bit done tonight 🙂 xx

I’m glad you are trying to save your card after your mistake. I was taking a journaling course online and I really made a huge mistake with a medium. I posted my error and got about ten suggestions about how to fix it. The art community is very helpful. I was really surprised with the effectiveness of the fix. I learned so much from the process.

Please! Show me the boo-boos! Otherwise I will get discouraged because I can’t do it just like you and won’t know any ways to “fix” my mistakes. Seems like every card I try ends up with more paper in the recycling than in the finished product. I will know I am on my way when the ratio reverses! Thanks for everything. And (ta-da) I ordered the poinsettias kit!

Unlike many of your followers, I’m REALLY new to cardmaking (really just been into it for about a year). Recently I’ve moved from simple die cutting machine work (Cricut) to stamping, coloring, watercoloring, etc. So I make a LOT of mistakes. A LOT!! But I’ve learned great things from those mistakes and learned a few saves as well. Your post gives me hope because I know I’m on the right path. Your card turned out BEAUTIFULLY!

Glad you were able to save at least part of it…and thanks SO much for that wonderful tip about fussy cutting the legs off…and then adhering the birds body back to the legs. So simple and effective! We all make mistakes even those of us who are good at what we do like you. When you can fix it and no one knows unless you tell them, it’s a win/win for you. That’s what I like, being able to cover up a mistake. Its like all those paper marbled scraps I got. They all have mistakes on them but unless you really look or you were told, you would never know there are mistakes on the paper. If you didn’t tell us, we would never know. I have a question though. Why Tis The Season on this? What is the season? That is a Christmas saying which is why I am asking. I do like it and I do like the coloring too.

It’s very encouraging to see how you think through a mess and not get discouraged. Gives me hope that what I have been coloring every evening can eventually be turned into something beautiful as well.

Hi Kathy!! Beautiful bird card. Your coloring is always amazing! I can’t tell you how many times I have gotten ink on my card, front and or back from ink on my fingers, wrist, sleeve, etc. Ink happens. LOL Great way to salvage that beautiful bird. Thanks for keeping it real. ((((Big Crafty Hugs))))

THANK YOU for being such a REAL and HONEST crafter Kathy – although it is sad when things don’t work perfectly, I confess that I take comfort in knowing that I am not alone. It is EVEN BETTER when you SHARE how to RECOVER from craft-cidents and your recovery with the bird is SO COOL, I will keep it in mind for next time, before I decide to just scrap things.
I LOVE the card you ended up creating … just think, it may not have turned out so beautiful if you didn’t have challenges along the way 🙂
THANK YOU for the chance to win, going to link my name now!
