DAY 23. Quick Coloring & Video

challenge_graphic-June-650

Hello Friends, How are you today? I am back up with a more normal post today and a “unedited” video. Day 23. is all about quick coloring by cutting your images off with a window card. Less to color 🙂

IMG_0188

My local stamping store called Angela’s Happy Stamper is awesome and I was so delighted to pick up these sentiments that really go perfectly with the Tim Holtz “Crazy Birds” Yes…I had to draw eye lids again on my birds.

To Watch the video in HD click here.

Here is another video with me coloring the Crazy Birds with Copics during the last challenge.

IMG_0191

If you watch the video you will see how I smash the ink pad on my watercolor paper to use as my palette. Some white gel pen action was added to their head feathers.

ALSO HOT TIP!  A friend of mine did some gel pen research and found out that gel pens should be stored FLAT!!! A big thanks Patti for the hot tip! I hope this helps some of you that have problems. Keep in mind I always say to write or draw….s.l.o.w.l.y. when using it.

IMG_0193

Once my video was complete I had the idea to add the bird at the bottom. What do you think? I think I like it better without? Hummm. All righty see you all tomorrow and thanks for the visit. Hugs, Kathy

P.S. Go here to read more about the 30 Day Coloring Challenge and if you want to share what your creating go to Day 1 and scroll to the bottom of the post. You will find a blue Inlinkz tab to link up your coloring.

P.S.S. If you are having trouble sharing your art on the Inlinkz tool here is a tutorial. If you want to share on Instagram even better (but, only choose one please) Here is a tutorial. I hope you find these helpful :)

Hi Kathy, Thanks for a great video, I love the cute birds, and how you do the water colouring always nice to watch, and the mess on your desk is good, I get like that sometimes too, and having the panel over the birds looks great, Cheers Anna.

All we crafters KNOW that a messy desk is a sign of a creative artist. And, that you are! I loved how your card turned out…it’s really cute. And , as for your unedited video……I loved it. Your human and we get to see the real and fun side of you. I wish more bloggers would do so.

  8. Ruby C says

    June 23, 2015 at 8:21 am

Loved watching the video last night so I watched it again today. My messy (I mean happily full of goodies) desk is much more full than yours. No matter how clear my desk top is when I start out, I seem to always end up with just enough clear space for what I am working on at the moment.
Now for your fun card, I must admit when I scrolled down and saw that third little guy eaves dropping on his friend I had to laugh. Thanks for another fun 30 Day Coloring Challenge day.

    • Kathy Racoosin says

      June 24, 2015 at 12:17 am

Ruby, I thrilled I mad you laugh. My messy desk went with the unedited video. LOL Thanks for watching and don’t forget to make time for you.

  9. Jackie says

    June 23, 2015 at 8:46 am

I think it turned out great! I must admit I was little skeptical at first, but you always make it beautiful in the end. Mine ends up a muddy mess a lot of times. More practice! It’s nice to see your messy desk and know I am not alone in having stuff all over the place when I make a card. It always amazes me how much mess it takes to make one card! Thanks for the tip about gel pens, too. I have just taken all of mine out of the cup and put them in a tray.

    • Kathy Racoosin says

      June 24, 2015 at 12:23 am

Jackie, Keep practicing and making a mess. Being creative usually makes a mess. Color like no one is watching except last night everyone saw my mess. LOL Hope the gel pen tip helps. Slow and a light relaxed pen tip pressure helps too and don’t forget to first warm up the tip on your hand. Keep on making time for you. 🙂

      • Jackie says

Thanks, Kathy. Keep making your wonderful cards and videos, you are an inspiration!

Kathy, Angela’s Happy Stamper is my local stamp store! Where do you live if I may ask. I remember seeing one of your posts about a restaurant in Sliver Spring and thought perhaps you were visiting here. I live in Loudoun county.

And p.s.: Love these crazy birds! Great video and always good tips.

  12. Susie says

    June 23, 2015 at 10:04 am

I wanted to say too, that I LOVE the “drawing on” of eyelids – *haha* why not? I think like you, I prefer the card without the extra crazy. Although today I’m going to create a card using your idea of the extra image peeking out of the front panel (several days ago). At least that’s what’s in my head right now (she smiles).

  13. Kelly says

    June 23, 2015 at 10:22 am

  18. Catrinel says

    June 23, 2015 at 11:17 am

Great tip on making a quick card, thank you. Fab colouring as always, I think the 3rd bird makes the card more interesting. I definitely empathise with the messy desk, mine always ends up messy when I make something!

    June 23, 2015 at 11:19 am

You know, your video was very refreshing and I loved that you didn’t edit your “shit” out…LOL … I say all the time, when everything is so neat, perfect and in place on videos, It never seems real… I loved your video, it was real and that makes crafters like me know we are not alone…lol

    • Kathy Racoosin says

      June 24, 2015 at 12:35 am

Yvonne, Crafters were born to be real and make a mess. Don’t you agree. I’m glad we can all relate and be real. Keep making a creative mess and finding time for you. 🙂

  20. Marianne says

    June 23, 2015 at 11:48 am

I’m happy to see (and read) I’m not the only crafter who makes a big mess while crafting. 😉 Love how your birds turned out, Kathy. I still don’t have this set, since it’s somehow always sold out whenever I’m ready to place an order. ;-(
I think your additon is rather fun. It’s as if s/he is eavesdropping and thinking the other two are talking a lot of rubbish.

Such a cute card, Kathy, thanks for the daily inspiration. I WILL pull these birds out tonight & at the very least color one.

  24. Pat Rapisarda says

    June 23, 2015 at 12:16 pm

    Hi Kathy,
I have so enjoyed all of the color challenge and you inspired me to work on my coloring in a “no stress” kind of way. That resulted in my best watercolor ever! It was a single large flower and I was so surprised how it turned out!! I love the way you talk us through what you’re doing. You were a little hard on yourself today. Please know that you bring so much joy to so many with what you do! Take in a couple of deep breaths and breath in some of the love and friendship you engender by your sharing. My desk is always a wreck. Many days I’m hard on myself for what I think I should be doing or be able to accomplish. I find I miss the joy of the doing if I’m stressed about doing it! Anyway, wanted to give a few words of encouragement to someone who inspires so many.
    Namaste,
    Pat

    • Kathy Racoosin says

      June 24, 2015 at 12:50 am

Pat, Such kind words and wisdom. I needed to practice what I encourage others to do “no stress” coloring. It was one of those days. Perfect advice :” I find I miss the joy of the doing if I’m stressed about doing it!” So true. Thrilled to hear about your watercoloring success. Keep on finding that time for you. 🙂

    June 23, 2015 at 12:18 pm

Oh, Kathy, you are amazing, and I LOVE the eyelids! They add so much to their personality and expression. I love that Tim didn’t add them so we can. LOVED the video and your messy desk…made me feel right at home. And what a fun and quick card. Thank you so much!! And now chill a bit! LOL! Hugs!

  26. conil says

    June 23, 2015 at 12:23 pm

I just think the way you put eyelids and eyeshadow on these birds is the bomb. And your coloring is always outstanding. My mess makes your’s look pristing…part of the creative process. Don’t you think? Please say, yes.

    • Kathy Racoosin says

      June 24, 2015 at 12:53 am

Conil, Yes I agree, you can’t be creative without making a mess. Thanks for your kind words and keep finding time for you.:)

  30. Sheri K says

    June 23, 2015 at 1:08 pm

I love these crazy birds–have colored them with copics last couple of days, today’s IG is done with colored pencils, but different birds. I still have more crazy ones to color, I like how quick and easy they color. I love the circle idea, I may just have to do some BD cards of that, i have lots of cards for men coming up-brother, nephews, son, etc. Thanks for the inspiration, I’ll be sad to see the challenge end–but now I have a ton of images to make into cards! Thanks for that!

  31. Holly Saveur says

    June 23, 2015 at 1:14 pm

Such a great card..LOVE them both ..but maybe the first one is my favorite although it looks so well like they speak with each other on the card where you added the bird.
Well your desks looks still tidy..when I am creating it can be a much bigger mess…
    Great video Kathy!

  32. Morag says

    June 23, 2015 at 1:28 pm

Hi Kathy – I have so enjoyed your challenge over the last days… but this card made me laugh out loud.

I felt given the birds’ expressions there should have been an inside hidden sentiment that asked “do we have a communication problem?”

Would be a great card for when colleagues or friends have one of those stupid misunderstandings that just needs humour to move past it…

    • Kathy Racoosin says

      June 24, 2015 at 1:00 am

Morag, Those silly birds could get away with saying anything. In the video last night the birds were talking about how a messy desk encourages creativity. Keep laughing out loud and finding time for you. 🙂

I love watching you work! I hope to have a messy space later today myself, you’ve inspired me to work on the birds some more. I don’t have the sentiment set – on my wish list now! The way you do the eyes is genius!!

  35. Glenna Chong says

    June 23, 2015 at 4:41 pm

Hi Kathy…I love your unedited videos! They make you so real! Your fun nature really comes out in your videos and I enjoy laughing along with you. Sometimes I laugh out loud, my family looks at me like I’m crazy. I tell them…”you have to see Kathy (er um…yes…we are on a first name basis here) she’s so funny!” Please keep them coming!
p.s. your creative is not messy…:)

    • Kathy Racoosin says

      June 24, 2015 at 1:04 am

Glenna, It seems the birds and I were making people laugh out loud last night. Laughter is always a bonus along with a messy desk. Keep laughing and finding time for you even if your family thinks your crazy. LOL 🙂

  36. Becky Green says

  38. Ruth says

    June 23, 2015 at 6:09 pm

Kathy, please stop apologizing. You make such enjoyable videos because you are always yourself and you are very real. We can all identify with a desk that’s messy, with picking up the wrong color and saying “I don’t like that,” with changing our minds halfway through a card. What makes you so special, Kathy, is that we always understand what you mean, and we are inspired by the fact that pretty much everything you do turns out great, no matter how many mishaps you identify as you go along. You are definitely a favorite!

They didn’t want me to bring home the extras. I got to do some flowers and a bunny and some cupcakes! lt was a great day!!!!

The best part of this whole video is your messy desk!!! LOL Mine always looks like that when I’m working. I can never make up my mind what products to use so I wind up with 50 extra things on my desk that I’m not even using because I drag them all out for comparison. Then it takes me half an hour to clean up afterward! But I think I heard somewhere that a messy desk is a sign of genius….so there. 🙂
