Day 26. pencil accents

challenge_graphic-4-650

Hello Friends, How are you today? I can’t believe that we are getting close to the end *gasp! Many of you have expressed how much you are enjoying the challenge and I am seriously thinking of hosting it again.

IMG_4138

This weekend I am a lucky enough to get away and craft with some friends. Being with crafty friends is so inspiring and fills your heart. The icing on the cake is trying out supplies that you don’t have. I was able to get to know the owner of Clearly Besotted. She’s such a doll and so delightful. You can imagine that I fell in love with her flower stamps set called, “Friends Forever” .

IMG_4132

The Spetrum Aqua markers (watercolor) are so easy to use and have nice variety of colors. I wanted to add more depth to my petals so I used a colored pencil to add a few highlights and a wash of light color over the entire petal. (with a very light hand)

IMG_4128

There is a die cut for this stamp set but, it was easy enough to cut two of the blooms so that I could pop them on my card with some foam tape.

IMG_4124

This is what my flowers looked like before I added the accents and outlined the image with this marker. If you get a minute please let me know your thoughts another coloring challenge. Have a great day and see you tomorrow. 🙂

Wow first comment, probably cause its early hours of the morning over there. Or I am an over eager really keen Watercolour Challenge stalker. What can I say, I love flower stamps and this card looks brilliant. The touch of highlight colours and wash just perfect, really gives a mix of colours that are very unique. As for another Challenge ohhhh YES please. Would love another, I am so enjoying this and seeing what everyone else is adding.

This is beautiful. Great colors + great dimension!
I didn’t find enough time to participate in the coloring challenge, but if you host it again in the future, I will try!

Such a pretty card. I liked the card a lot in your “before” picture but really loved it after the accents and outlining!!! So realistic looking and so much pop!

Beautiful! I’m a little afraid of using watercolors. They seem difficult to control, but maybe that’s the fun of it. Guess I need to try again and forget my apprehension. Thanks for all the inspiration using different mediums!

Another beauty, Kathy. I’m really enjoying this challenge. Even if I don’t mange to colour every day or post my creations on my blog, I do find that I’m trying new things based on your work. I would love it if you would do another challenge, but maybe you could do shorter once, like 7 days, or make it a monthly feature, focusing on a single technique each month where you would only need to post once (or 3x a month for additional inspiration). For as much as you love inspiring us and we love being inspired, it also needs to remain fun and doable for you and not become a burden.

Wow! So much inspiration from this single piece. I would not normally mix such different colors together but it looks wonderful…and the addition of the outlining and pencil makes it pop. Thanks for all of the ideas!!

I am loving #thedailymarker30day! When I first saw it I thought. Color for a few minutes every day? I can do that! I didn’t make it everyday but I did on a lot of them and have read all your post and learned new things. I hope you do the 30 day challenge again. If you do, I will make a basket like you did and (no excuses) will try for every day. Your no pressure for us to do it everyday made this very enjoyable and I loved reading your comments on the days I did instagram. You are amazing! Oh and I love the added detail your pencil highlights have made here. Simply gorgeous!

Lovely card Kathy. I really like what you did with this stamp set and your editing – yeah i think thats the right word- you add, subtract, alter…. Its very interesting to see. I appreciate seeing what it looked like before you started the editing 🙂 And the results are so beautiful. I’d be in for another coloring challenge. It’s keeping me coloring (as well as drawing etc) and for me that’s good. Daily scheduled therapy LOL!

Okay I think you should know where I stand on the coloring challenge! I have loved playing along….every….single day! The only one thing I can say outside of loving it is …I need more images to color I think! LOL I’d definitely keep going! 😀

Absolutely beautiful colors! You have such a good eye.
I would love to do another coloring challenge, even though as a single mom who works full time, I wasn’t able to keep pace with you all! I am still on day 12! But it was really fun to see other people’s artwork and I really enjoyed interacting with them. I am new to blogging so it was a treat to visit the participant’s sites and see what others do. Thanks for doing the 30 Day Challenge!

    Hi Kathy
Gorgeous flowers. Love the way they came out with the added color. I was just thinking this morning how I was going to miss everyone’s posts daily. I am so enjoying this challenge and learning to color a little better each day. Practice makes perfect as they say. I was so excited to read that you will do this again. I am definitely up for the challenge. Thank you Kathy for being such an inspiration to myself and everyone else through this challenge. I love making new Instagram friends and love seeing there creations.
    Your the best!!!!

This card and stamp set is super gorgeous! Did you use Copic pens to make the shadow outline of the flowers? My coloring challenge experience has been really great. It allowed me to develop my skills simply by having to practice every day. All of the current coloring methods I use are just a little better than when we started at Day 1. And after seeing so many amazing examples and getting such nice feedback from participants on Instagram, I’m inspired and encouraged all the more to try new things and enhance my knowledge further. I’ve not attempted any month long challenges before but I might be more willing now because of this awesome experience. Maybe the only downside of this whole experience is that I now desperately want to buy Copic markers which are pricey – but maybe I can buy just one or two (or a few) at a time. Thank you for setting up this whole challenge and keeping up with all of us! Besides all that I’ve already said, this experience was very enjoyable and I’m so glad I participated!

Love those flowers, and the way you’ve colored them is awesome! I mostly follow your 30 Day Coloring Challenge on Instagram, but I really enjoy it and thought I’d hop over here to tell you how much I appreciate what you do. I’m impressed by all the commenting you do on our works. I can by no means imagine how much work this is but a lot is surely understated. Thank you so much!

Gorgeous cards. I haven’t tried the Spectrum Aqua markers yet. I enjoy their alcohol markers. Love your shading and detail on the gladiolas. My fav flower. I am enjoying the challenge. I don’t get to color as much as I want, but when I get the chance, I am lost in coloring and trying new things. I am always learning something new from you and try to add it to my art. Since this challenge started, I got a Uniball white pen and now a Wink of Stella pen. WooHoo. And I am always using a black marker to go around my cut edges of my image when I cut it out. Thanks for all you do and how you have inspired me. YES, another challenge. Maybe a 2 week challenge. Thanks, Kathy, for all you do to make art fun.

    Kathy,

You have such a big heart besides being super talented! I love this card, the coloring with the pencil and marker added is amazing! I have enjoyed the challenge so much, even though I wasn’t able to post most of my work. You got me doing some coloring each day and I am better for it, thank you. I would love for you to do another challenge, but as others have stated, please make it manageable for YOU, I think this must have been an awful lot of work especially with your hubby’s surgery on top of it. Glad to hear you are having some fun with crafty friends this weekend, you deserve it.

    Hugs,

And, definitely a big YES on another coloring challenge. That is after you have time to recoup after this one. So much work, and while nursing your husband, wow! I keep saying it, but will again.. Thank you for all your work putting together this challenge…and all of your wonderful ideas and techniques instructions and videos.

Even though I haven’t posted any of my coloring I have been doing it, and enjoying it. To be able to say to myself, you don’t have to finish it today, it doesn’t have to be brilliant, just have fun and PLAY, has resulted in some really gorgeous cards! So I’d def. follow along if you were to do this again sometime in the future. This flower set is a beautiful stamp set, love glads. Your coloring is truly inspirational. It’s amazing how adding the pencil work totally transformed the card. From pretty to AWESOME! This has now gone into my inspiration file. Enjoy your crafty weekend, you certainly deserve it. Are these markers similar to Tombows… also waterbased markers? Now, regarding your question : yes yes, please, please do another challenge. While I’ve not posted anything yet, I’ve purposely set aside time almost everyday to color. It’s made me so happy and greatly improved my Copic coloring technique. I can’t thank you enough!

  68. Gail Plaskiewicz says

    March 29, 2015 at 10:45 pm

Oh my gosh! The flowers you did were beautiful and even though I loved both that you did, I can see where the second one is the better of the 2. What do you use to cut your designs out? If you say and exacto knife, is there anything else you can use? In my high school art class we made lino cuts. Basically, it was making your own stamps. Lino because it was linoleum? I’m not sure exactly what they were but they were cut out with an exact knife. I can’t tell you how many times I sliced my fingers up. I’m surprised I don’t have any scars. My art teacher had plenty of band-aids. We put ink on them from a tube I think and used a brayer to spread the ink and then put it on paper. All these years later, (this was in 1972) I’m doing the same thing almost except no cutting out stamps for me. Wish I knew where that lino cut was today.

I loved the challenge even though I color quite a bit. However, if you ever want to do a challenge again, I am totally up for it! Will we continue to get e-mail’s every day because I love everything! If we could only spend our days crafting and coloring instead of working. Thank you for all that you do for all of us.

Thank you so much for all your hard work for this challenge! As the others have said it’s amazing how you even found the time to do this especially with your husbands surgery. I would love to see another challenge but only when you’re ready & if 30 days was too difficult for you make it shorter so you don’t get burned out! I will make time the next go-round and I think these challenges are awesome!

First of all, your coloring of this is to DIE for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously pretty. As far as a challenge goes, I would really like it if you would do it again because I was too busy to enjoy and particpate in this one. Thank you for continuing to inspire us all Kathy!

The 30 day challenge has been really great. I haven’t been able to do *every* day, but I’ve done most and it’s been a great excuse for me to use products that have been just sitting around that I keep meaning to try. Thanks for being SO motivating!

Beautiful card Kathy, love the flowers and of course your coloring. Yes, yes, yes, I would love another coloring challenge, that was so much fun, and it helped in my therapy to get me out of bed and in my scrapbooking room to do the challenge, so thank you for that Kathy, like I told you before you have no idea how this challenge has effected so many people.

Beautiful–love the pencil accents. I have enjoyed this 30 day coloring challenge even though I did not always take photos and post what I was working on.

Wow! this is another stunning card and love how you combine different mediums and add more details to the images. I was looking at the spectrum water color pens but never tried them but this looks wonderful. Another color challenge would be awesome if you did.

I haven’t had time to play along with the challenge but have so enjoyed reading your daily posts and seeing what you’ve created. Another challenge would be great! Thanks for all your inspiration 🙂

I love how the pencils seem to change the complete look of the image. The outline and using the white for a little pop of color really makes it so much better. Great job. TFS
