Day 12. Dark Background

challenge_graphic-650-october

Hello Friends, How are you? Did you have a good weekend? As you know I was on the road so it was fun to finish my coloring of these “Birds of Paradise” from My Favorite Things. I just discovered that Simon has them in stock if you were looking for them.

IMG_8922

It took me a little time to color the background but, it was relaxing and I enjoyed it. I added dots very slowly with some colors to compliment the background color. I love adding the eyelash lines and dots and a few doodles to the birds with my 0.05 Copic multiliner.

IMG_8905

I thought you might want to see the “before” and I admit I was a little nervous to color it a dark background.

That’s it for today and I hope to have a video soon. Your visit is always appreciated. Hugs, Kathy

Looks awesome, as always! I like how you did the pale, blended body on the birds. Any special technique? Thanks Kathy!

    • Kathy Racoosin says

      October 12, 2015 at 1:54 pm

Basically I chose soft colors and feathered colors into each other. The blending solution dots also kept things softer. Apply your colors with a light hand. Color your World. 🙂

Love the birds, love the eyelashes, love your choices of colors, love the background. Home Run!!! I use my Copic multi-liner pens a lot, too, and since learning how you use them will get more use out of them. Love multi-functional tools. I just love everything today. (grin)

Gonna don my hazmat suit today and play with my recently received Frisket. Need to find some info about what is the best cardstock and inks to use with it or if it matters. One video I found used watercolor cardstock, but curious about others that might work, too. Any ideas? I totally trust what you say.

    • Kathy Racoosin says

      October 14, 2015 at 10:43 pm

I have only used the Frisket on Tim Holtz watercolor paper. It works great. As for other papers I can only tell you to do a test. Frisket can pull off a layer of paper if they’re not compatible. Thanks for joining in the fun. Relax with color. 🙂

I love how the dark background looks. I wasn’t sure I would like it because I never do backgrounds. Doesn’t doing a background use up a lot of color? However, I like yours and maybe I will try it but with colored pencils so I don’t have to worry about using one up like with a marker. I also love the colors. What a really good job!

Love your dark background and I forget to color that and end up fussy cutting or using the dies and then mounting them with more dies and such! This is a terrific idea and will lead to a more relaxing task! Lead on!

i’d love to know how you made all the little dots-are they on top of the copics? so pretty- i love the dark background and your fun doodled details!

    • Kathy Racoosin says

      October 14, 2015 at 11:27 pm

I used the copic blender marker “0” that has blending solution in it. You just press the tip of the marker anywhere you want a dot. Practice with different pressure on the tip and you’ll see how it will make different sizes.,Also how long the marker stays in place makes a difference. You can do it once even go back. You can draw with the copic blender and add stripes, zig zags etc. Essentially the copic blender marker lifts color off. The blender can do many more things. I just named a few. You can have so much fun with the copic blender. Color your World! 🙂
