Coloring & Layering a Die Cut

IMG_8336

Hellllloooooo Friends!!! How are you? Today I have a quick post with some die cut coloring and layering. This snowflake block from Simon was super fun to layer with some soft sea glass and mint cardstock.

IMG_8337

Adding a little Copic coloring on two of the snowflakes added some color to my snowy card. Hero Art’s Unicorn white spray is something you have seen me use before. Love the look that the snow added to my card.

IMG_8320

This smile die cut is easy to use on most cards but, for this card the circle part wouldn’t work so I cut the word out it fit perfectly!

In the meantime I am testing all different kinds of markers from Sharpies to Copics …. Tombow to Distress on many different coloring books. I am still trying to figure out the best way to share my results via YouTube or Periscope. If you don’t know what Periscope is here is the 101.  Do you want to vote? In the comment area just say YouTube or Periscope.

In a few days I will be sharing a reminder post of the coloring challenge and refreshing your memories of ways to get organized. If you don’t have the dates down here is the graphic.

I am getting to excited (and a little nervous) for the coloring challenge! Mostly super exited!! Have a great weekend & thanks for popping in today. Hugs, Kathy

Your cards are always stunning and this one is no exception!! All I can say is “WOW!” As far as your marker review, I would prefer You Tube. Thanks so much for your wonderful tips and inspiration!!!

    Always stunning work, Kathy! 🙂

By the way, I just uploaded a card to my blog, too…I mentioned you in the post b/c I decided to add some details with a white gel pen. You were totally right–that little touch of white adds a lot! 🙂 If you want to see it, here’s the link:

Your card is so pretty…love the soft blues you used and the depth achieved with your coloring. I’ve never heard of the Unicorn spray…sounds interesting. Thanks for the tip.

I like the option of going back and watching later when I have more time to focus on the content. Sometimes that is MONTHS later. LOL

Question – when I clicked on the smile die at the end of your email, the info at SSS says it is an inch and a half long. It looks longer than that on your card. What is the actual size?

    • Kathy Racoosin says

      September 25, 2015 at 11:56 am

Yes Laura that sounds right. The card measures 3.5 x 5 . Sorry the photos are sometimes so deceiving.

Love your beautiful snowflake card! I prefer You Tube. Periscope is fine but if you cannot watch all of it and go back to finish you have to start from the beginning again. I am not a fan of all the comments covering up the work that I am viewing on Periscope either. You Tube is much easier to navigate and reference back to and has really changed my life in a better way cause I learn so much from the You Tubers videos.

    September 25, 2015 at 10:38 am

Love this card, very cool and refreshing on a hot Florida day.
I vote YOUTUBE, Periscope is ok but YouTube is much less distracting to watch….and I can go back to it whenever… Keep doin what you do….

  18. Sue Edwards says

    September 25, 2015 at 11:25 am

YouTube is my choice. For the same reasons everyone has stated…plus I haven’t learned how to ‘do’ Periscope. By the time I find it, I can’t ‘find’ it.

Love your card. Gotta give this a try…I’m thinking I have an awesome Christmas ornament stamp and die set where this technique would work. Just thinking outside the box and expanding my supplies, or finally using something I’ve had for 2 years. Thanks for the inspiration.

Looking forward to the Challenge. LOVE LOVE LOVE your Challenges!! I color every day, with one kind of marker or another. Can’t decide which is my favorite, so give them all a chance. Will be interested in your research on markers on the coloring books. I’m hooked on them also, but I cringe at ‘using up all that ink’ on something colored that is too big for a card and will go in a drawer. What does everyone do with the finished page??? I do love coloring them with my copics, as I can refill copics. The other markers, I don’t want to ‘use’ up my ink! I know, sometimes I whine!!!

Kathy, AMAZING card. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. I know it would be impossible, but I wish we could have videos on these amazing cards you do, I would love to see your process. I know you are way too busy especially with the color challenge coming up. Maybe we should sneak a camera into your Scrapbook room so we can watch you 24/7, LOL, Just kidding, I am so looking forward to the challenge, I am dying to do my Prima doll stamps I told you I was saving for this, it was really hard waiting. I did do the one for my Mom’s Birthday yesterday and she flipped out, she said it was the best present she got, and we got her an angel diamond ring, I thought that would be, so I knew she really liked it when she said that. Have a GREAT weekend. Oh yeah, I vote You tube !!

Absolutely gorgeous card!! Excited for the next challenge. I hope I get to play along more this time.. ^_^ Although, it shouldn’t be a problem. It is birthday season for me, until February.. hehe I prefer your videos on YouTube. I haven’t jumped on the periscope band wagon, yet. I probably won’t, actually. So, much easier if you have you tube.. or you can do what others are doing.. They’re doing periscope, then put it on youtube.. hehe Little bit for everyone. I have noticed I’ve been missing a lot since periscope came around, but I just don’t have time to add another social media outlet. (just my opinion, of course)

Gorgeous, gorgeous! I love the colours – it’s just perfect! As for me, You Tube. Haven’t got into Periscope yet – too much social media I can’t cope with, plus I sometimes don’t get to watch the videos until a few days later. Have been excited about the challenge since the pop up one in August. Me and a crafty friend in Australia will be doing the online Copic class during the challenge – will spur me on to practice with them more 🙂 Hope you had a great birthday today! Xx

You Tube please. Can’t seem to get Periscope on my computer. Like the bigger screen and unfortunately, haven’t been able to get it to work . I know it’s probably my problem, being the technophobe that I am. Your layered card is beautiful, by the way. Love the pretty soft colors and the festiveness (is that a word?) of it.

  44. Tammy says

Hi Kathy! Love the snowflake block and how you used it on this gorgeous card, with the layering of the snowflakes.
I prefer YouTube. Periscope does not appeal to me because I can’t just drop what I’m doing to watch. I’m busy with grand babies most of the week, I have to squeeze in my favorite blogs and their YouTube videos when it’s convenient. And I don’t want to miss a single thing! Thanks, Kathy, for all you share. I appreciate it so much.
