Today I am sharing an image that I previously colored. I choose this particular piece to show you how you can enhance your coloring with any type of markers.

THIS IS THE “AFTER” (enhanced with colored pencils by adding highlights and more color)
Here’s a side by side. I spent maybe 15 minutes adding the extra touches.

See, I thought the first colouring was already brilliant… But the after is drop dead gorgeous! I gave taken eight of the OCC classes. I keep thinking I need the Tim Holtz ones too and they keep adding awesome offerings. I find them to be the absolute best online classes anywhere. The videos and instructors are amazing, classes are packed with tips and the cards are super inspiring. My only complaint is that they end too soon, LOL,

I have not taken any classes from the company you mentioned. I do like the pencil colored layered on top. Noticed that you used prismacolor colored pencils. I like those too. Thanks for showing this technique, I am going to go back and add some colored pencil to previous colorings
Wait….did you add Glossy accents after doing your highlights?? Because I was sure you had but I do know it is easy to trick the eye like that with the highlights and if you didn’t your highlights are working VERY well because it certainly looks like you added the GAs!! Bravo!
I don’t know if I have anything with that much detail but I will keep this in mind because your results are fabulous!!

Lovely coloring, Kathy! I wouldn’t have thought to color over Copics with colored pencils; I love the effect. I’ve taken a couple of OCC classes and really enjoyed them, especially the Copic class.

I have taken the independent version of Copic and love it. I was printing out more practice sheets yesterday as a matter of fact! I also took Clean and Simple Tech and did enjoy that too.

LOVE the online card classes. I have taken at least 12 of them–not all of them but a lot of them. They are good classes. My favorite was the watercolor class. Fabulous for any level of artist!

No I haven’t taken card classes. I’m out of work and just have to use what I already purchased. I do wish I could use my copics and water pencils like you do. I’m not good at shading at all; I just don’t have an eye for it. But wished I could. I love stamps that have all that beautiful shading and coloring.

Love the highlights! It definitely gave the whole project life to the point that I thought you had used glossy accent on some details. WOW! No. I just recently found out about on-line classes. They are in my future. Actually it’s only been in the last six months that I have discovered this entire on-line world of crafters. Your coloring challenge makes me think my first class might be a “How-to-Use-Copics”. Thank you for all the inspiration and taking the time to comment on the challenge submissions.

Congrats to the Copics winners! Looks like at least one of the sets will go to a good home, judging from the winner’s comment. I have taken almost all classes of the past two years. I have already learned so much from these classes and it has really helped me to grow as a card maker. I’m now trying to revisit these classes because there are still so many things to try and learn. Love the effects of combining alcohol markers and pencils. I also loved Shari’s bird from the Copics class.

Beautiful Kathy I am learning so much from you and loving coloring all over again. Because of this 30 day challenge I am currently doing the Copic classes and love them. Boy I know I sure did and do need them. Great teachers and tutorials:) would love another kinda class also but if there is someone that hasn’t taken one yet I think they would take more afterwards as am I so very informative even on top of all the videos I watch you ladies ROCK…..
I have taken only one of these classes. I took the stenciled class and absolutely loved it. They have so many great classes I would love to take. Just not always in the budget. Love your artwork. I love this challenge and getting to see all the things you do. Such a pleasure! THANKS!!

I have taken 2 of their classes, and they are great. I love how you can go back and learn again, and then share them with your 8 yr old daughter because she wants to learn too. And mostly you can use whats already in your stash. But you do end up wanting to buy loads of cool stuff, because there is sooooo much new stuff to do! But thats ok, because they have great discount codes with great stores! BTW Kathy, I love your double stencil technique. Awesome

Holy moly. I can’t believe how big a difference a few lines can make to bring dimension to an image. I was floored when I saw the coloring but when I scrolled down and saw the details you created with the colored pencils, I was absolutely stunned! Absolutely amazing. OCC classes are really amazing!! What a great prize!! My friends got me the OCC Copic Class for my bday this past February and boy do I need to practice!! I took the class on Copics before I even bought a Copic pen. I felt it help me making wiser purchases and I love that I can go back and watch the classes over and over!
I took my first OCC class – a Holiday card class in 2013. I was immediately hooked and have taken every class since then, I think! Each class I find myself thinking, “this one might be my best one yet!” 🙂

Oh ya! The colored pencil defiantly made a beautiful drawing into stunning! I really like using pencil over copics for hair and flowers but love love love it over watercolor (dry of coarse) when I can’t get the blasted color to do what I want since I’m no Dawn (WPlus9) but it’s my favorite cheat technique now 🙂

YES! I’ve taken the Watercolor class, the Copic class, both of the Tim Holtz classes, currently taking the Stretch your Die class and just signed up for A Cut About – Part 1 class. And there are a few others I’d like to go back and take. Can’t say enough about Online Card Classes, they are awesome. I always learn so much from them. Very talented group of ladies.

Loved the coloring. I used color pencils with the marker for detailing a stamp…it just gives so much depth to the image. I have taken a OCC in 2012 and enjoy it alot.

I’ve taken many of them and recommend them highly. I wish they were priced in the $13-18.00 range. I have so many crafty friends that just either can’t or won’t spend $25.00 plus on a class. Many just can’t afford it.

Hi Kathy, I have taken 4 of the card making classes. One of the first ones I took was from Tim Holtz and that was AWESOME! I loved how he taught the class. I think all of the classes are fantastic value – especially as you can download each of the videos to watch at a later date or I can send it to my iPad to watch anywhere (no other online class I have seen lets you download the video to keep). The PDF’s are all really good quality and the videos are a pleasure to watch. I cannot recommend them highly enough. If I was to take another class, I would love to take the watercolour class or the copic class, seems as I have just purchased my very first set of copics and have not a clue on how to use them! I loved your video on cutting out the YOU on the cactus card – that blew my mind! Cannot wait to try it out. Take care 🙂

Hi Kathy, I have that stamp, I have all her stamps. Wow, Wow, Wow, That is soooo AMAZING, hope you don’t get tired of hearing it but you are so talented. I haven’t colored that one yet, I could only dream it could come out half as good as yours. I just finished the new release zombie looking one yesterday, my sweet hubby says it was off the charts ( he has to say that ), it came out really bad, I’m trying to get my projects posted for the challenge before it’s over, lol so you can check it out. I’ve taken both of Tim’s Creative Chemistry classes, and the Watercolor for Card Makers, and loved.them.all!! I can’t say enough good things about these classes … especially that I get to review them whenever I want for life! I wish all online classes did that! There are at least 3 classes I’d love to take, and it’d be a tough decision to choose one … Copic Markers for Card Makers, Stretch Your Stamps, or Stenciled.

Beautiful, Kathy!! I think I’ve only used colored pencils once to enhance a project and it was a name tag for Easter. And I only did it because I was limited with 1 yellow alcohol marker. Love the way you showed before and after….both are very beautiful but can see how the Prisma-colored pencils do add more to it. chemistry(2),simple cards,co pics,watercolor,etc.
Just have a hard time getting work done if sessions not spaced with a day between classes.
