Penny Black’s Drab to Fab

Hello Friends, How is your week going so far?? Have you had a change to stop by The Penny Black Blog? All week PB is showing you how to turn a drab card into something fabulous. It’s called “From Drab to Fab” and today it’s my turn on the PB blog.

This is my “fab” card and below is the “drab” card. The sentiment is stamped on a “Spellbinders Labels 8”

Even though this is the “drab” card I think this card can stand on it’s own because the images are so adorable. However, I think this is a good example if you add some extra details you can really jazz up any card. This card shows the same hedgehog with his wagon filled eggs and this one the wagon is filled up with flowers.

I used the new Le Plume markers, a few Copic markers and a few Tombow markers to color the grass & the images. The bottom line is if you mix up your supplies you will get more mileage and some better results too.

Are you wondering what Le Plume is? I’m sure you have had heard of the brand before but, now they have alcohol markers that work beautifully!! The end of the month I will give you more info on them but, for now they are a value that you can’t beat! They are only $2.99 vs. Copic’s $6.99. They only have a brush tip and there are 141 colors. ( They are not refillable) Simon Says Stamp sells their Copic’s  for $5.49!

I traced the  pumpkins mouth right next to the line of the mouth with a white gel pen, then I outlined the white line with a black fine tip marker. I added shading to the pumpkin’s eye with a purple Tombow marker. A slit was cut with a kraft knife into the top of the wagon to insert the pumpkins.

All of the dimensional black dots are Enamel Accents and they really pop on the pumpkins eyes. I used white enamel accents on the centers of the flowers. The falling leaves were punched from the Authentique patterned paper and a dauber made it easy to distress the tiny leaves.

After coloring the grass with a Le Plume marker I distressed it with Shabby Shutters and added blue distress inks to the background. With a light hand I distressed all of the papers with some Brushed Corduroy distress ink.

Have you noticed a  smudge that’s on the hedgehogs belly? I decided to keep it because when you are toting pumpkins around you get dirty & I felt it looked authentic. To finish off the card I did a double bow with hemp twine was tied it off with a vintage button.
Thanks for taking the time to visit me I am always so grateful. Hugs, Kathy

It’s the hemp twine with the vintage button that really makes this an outstanding card for me – especilally with the black & the white accenting. Utterly effective.
