Altenew 7th Anniversary Blog Hop Day 1 + Giveaway

Hello Friends, Happy thursday! I am here today to celebrate Altenew’s 7th Birthday blog hop. Happy Happy BD Altenew!!

To celebrate this special BD I thought I would pick my favorite project from Altenew that I created earlier in the year and I will show you where I put the framed piece.

Honestly these “Happy Pomegranates” are one of my all time favorites stamps especially for watercolor. The fruit and leaves are nice and open so the water can flow within the fruit and leaves. Some stamps have such tight areas it can be frustrating to watercolor.

Adding black to the nooks & crannies really makes your painting pop. When I think of it I will add the dark color to some random areas to enhance the image at the beginning of my painting. I think that’s helpful to see where I might like to add the dark color. Again I do NOT pay attention to where the light source is that’s to stressful for me. I just go for it and know it always works out in the end lol.

My vintage crystal ashtray is perfect to hold a paint brush or watercolor pencil. My favorite way to use the pencils is to pick up the color from the pencil using a wet paint brush and dropping the color onto the wet paper.

Once my stamping and masking was finished I drew some stems with a pencil. I doubt pomegranates have stems but, that doesn’t matter.

The final detail is with some super sharp  pencils. You can see the difference that makes on the right but, it’s not finished  quite yet.

Altenew has such a wide range of watercolor products and they all have such bold and bright colors including these Woodless Watercolor Pencils . I happen to love the way these watercolor pencils feel in the hand. So smooth and silky.

Last month I was doing some spring cleaning and switched up my counter tops. I added these two pieces of art and my antique wood bread bowl. I found some dried pomegranates (that were enhanced) on Etsy all the way from Greece to put in my large bowl.

It’s fun when things come together like the glass pomegranate on the left that I have had for ages finally found the perfect spot. The other piece of art was used for balance and color.     I wouldn’t of thought the ‘Happy Pomegranates’ would look quite so interesting! You’ve made them look fabulous. I’m sure my eyes would of skipped over these Pomegranate stamps thinking I wouldn’t know what to do with them. But wow have I been proven wrong! These look amazing Kathy!
    The tips on using pencils is probably the best tip I’ve seen in a while. I can certainly see a big difference to the one where pencils have been used! I have the watercolour pencils but unfortunately I don’t have a clue how to use them properly, I usually do the (dry) shading on top of my image but it never looked very good. I will definitely give your way a try and pick up the color from the pencil using a wet brush and dropping the color onto the wet paper.
    Thank you so much for the inspiration, tips and sharing your talent with us. Oooh nearly forgot, I love your card (and the base card colour, I usually use white card stock, but again you’ve given me more inspiration. ) Have a great week.
