more of simon says jan card kit

Hello Friends, How are you today?? Happy New Year!! I hope the beginning of your 2013 is off to a good start with some realistic resolutions perhaps?? I just keep a running list…lol so nothing new really.
Today I am bringing you my second post with Simon Says Stamp January Card Kit. There is still time for the January’s card kit giveaway in this post.

One of the things I love about the card kits is the extras in the card kit that I wouldn’t normally put into my shopping cart. For example, the wood grain paper or the Tim Holtz tickets. I wanted to highlight these goodies in today’s feature. A while back I fell in love with these “Clever Owls” from Poppy Stamps and finally found the perfect paper to use with the owls…the woodgrain in the card kit 🙂 Try distressing it…delicious!!

Meet Tim Holtz journaling tickets and the most beautiful wood grain paper.

Adding a heart to my owls with some of the exclusive hearts from Simon Says “Mini Hearts” and “Large Holiday Shapes” were the perfect variety of hearts to sprinkle and color on my cards. Super easy to cut several at one time.

The “Small Folded Banners” worked perfectly for my stamped sentiments. (Sentiments you can find here and see in the supply list at the end of my post) If you are admiring the scalloped edge on my card base … it’s a Labels 1 die cut from Spellbinders you can find it here … (I use my Labels 1 more than any die cut.)

I added glossy accents to the eyes and applied rock candy distress stickles with a brush to the hearts after coloring them with some copic markers.

These babies are waiting for my next card but, I wanted to share the little extras I added to all of my owls. Incidentally the google eyes on the above owls I had in my stash but, I was happy to find them in the Simon Says stamp store here. Seriously… they always have what I need 🙂

Add some of this gorgeous distress ink starting at the top and lightly carrying the color down. I was going for an ombre look.

Add another color..in this case I added rusty hinge. Play around and have some fun.

What really makes the difference to to use a dark grey or black marker. You can use your chisel end. Pick up the body and outline the edge with the marker and repeat on the wings.

This is the last color combo I used.
Thank you for taking the time to visit and support my blog in 2012. I wish I could do a better job expressing how grateful I am. Please feel free if you would like to give me your feedback, suggestions and or if you would like to see something specific for me to try and create.
Thanks again!! Hugs, Kathy
