Pencils or Markers Hero Arts Blog Hop

***If you are looking for Katy’s Kindness Blog Hop please click here***  please check it out after the hop. It’s such a great cause. 🙂

Welcome to the Hero Arts Spring Catalog Blog Hop! Woo Hoo!! As you might imagine I am beyond thrilled to be participating with so many creative ladies and working with all of these lovely stamps, dies, inks, layering stamps etc etc. Awesome release Hero Arts!!

It’s practically impossible to create one card in these instances so bear with me as I share today. One of the dahlia’s is colored with markers and one of them is colored with pencils. Any idea which?

If you subscribe to my blog and the video is all wonkey click here.

A little background on all three of my cards. I am always blown away Anna Bucciarelli’s art on Instagram. Often she paints flowers with fish … breathtaking.

So that’s the look I was going for today… I was unable to achieve a similar look but, my cards are created with the spirit of Anna.

The “Artistic Dahlia” stamp is absolutely beautiful and I love that there are three die cuts for one image that way you get mega dimension … you know I love that.

I don’t have the die cut so I had a great time fussy cutting the flower and adding a stem with the sentiment on the side for a  more artistic cook. Twine was colored with a marker and tied around the stem. The sequins were glued down with this.

The “Koi Coloring Layering Stamps” were stamped on the background and a yummy layer of velum was added on top to soften the background. In the video I share how I used some colored pencil to add a little detail and then some white accents too.

This dahlia was colored with only pencils. The background was stamped with the koi layering stamps again and this stencil added some movement on the background. The text from this stamp finished off my background.

More vellum and sequins for the finishing touches.

I wasn’t ready to put the koi stamp away and wanted to make that bad boy stand out on this card.

After stamping the koi with layering inks I used my pencils to add some shading and detail to give him more dimension.(click here for a quick video I shared on Instagram) The droplets from Pretty Pink Posh are perfect for a card like this. I like to use both sizes 6mm & 4 mm.

The large “Thank You” was the perfect size for the tail to pop into. I made a banner with a small “you” stamp and glued it on the letter “k”.

I try the warming on a finger but just doesn’t flow right, do you have any other suggestions that might help? Do you have to store them in a certain angle? I’m clueless over some of the simple things lol. Thanks again and Happy Valentine’s day dear.

Okay, I love the cards. And I love the coloring. And the colors you used. But what I really, really love is the way you used the koi in all three cards. I would never have thought to use them as background and it is a wonderful idea! Thanks Kathy. I need to start looking at some of my other stamps in a different light.

I just commented on your video and thought I would pop over here to leave one for the hop! I’ll just say the same thing… These are beautiful, Kathy, absolutely beautiful. Your coloring looks amazing, as always! I really like the fish backgrounds and the vellum overlay. These cards have a very unique and unusual look and I love them! I was excited to see that your coloring challenge will start again in March. You know I will be trying again!

Every time you say you’re “futzing,” I chuckle. It’s one of my family’s favorite words and encompasses so many things. If futzing was all it took, I’d be a pro like you by now. Sadly, I am nowhere near that level, but you’ve inspired me to have fun with the the pencils and watercolor markers I have. I still haven’t taken the plunge into Copics. They’re out of my price range, and you’ve showed me I can’t get good results with my various pencils and watercolor markers. Someday…maybe. Thanks for all the great tips. Looking forward to the upcoming challenge.

For now, I can look at your card and imagine how beautiful the flowers will all look. I also love the Koi fish. I’ve seen some up-close and they are beautiful!
