Hello Friends, How are you today? Are you ready to celebrate? It’s Mama Elephant 4th Birthday and I am super excited!!  I love everything Mama Elephant and it’s an honor to be hopping with some talented gals. Prizes, discounts and a freebie is how Mama Elephant celebrates. (blog hop list is at the bottom of this post)

Today I have three cards and a video for you….. Shall we get started?

img_1482
Poinsettias yes please!! I have always loved this holiday favorite. Coloring the flowers in a non traditional way was my goal since I need cards asap. I believe the sentiment can be used all year even thought it’s a holiday stamp. We certainly need more peace, joy and love in this world.
img_1484
I stamped the poinsettia with a light ink and started adding light layers of color with my colored pencils. A sharp tip really helps! When finished I always go back and add a darker color to the nooks and crannies. The sentiment was stamped with this ink. Glossy Accents were added for water droplets to the petals and the flowers center.
img_1480
Same pencils were used on this card … just colored differently. For both flower cards I inked up some blue distress ink and used a Simon Says Stamp dot stencil to give the background some pizazz.
img_1483
At the end of my video I share the dot stencil part of this card. Did I say I can’t live without glossy accents?
img_1481
Click here to see the video for this card….stumbles and all. I mentioned how much I LOVE the door in this adorable stamp set and how it breaks my heart that I ran out of time. To create the background I used some post it tape and distress ink.

img_1479
If you have patience and the time add three coats of glossy accents to your card.. it is worth the time. Be sure to add lots of dry time between layers. I like to add the second layer just before bed so in the am it will be dry.
img_1472
The rag  and blending solution gives you so much texture.

I totally agree: there’s nothing like glossy accents, especially for a glassy look. Love the dimension and shine. Also, thanks for the tips. I didn’t know that you can add Copic over colored pencil. Of course, that kind of freaks me out a little, because it’s that many more supplies in a stack waiting to be put away! (I end up doing most of my coloring at my desk while I’m listening to things on my computer!) Can never seem to get the craft table cleaned off enough to actually use it!!!) You are awesome. Thanks.

I love how the plant isn’t the usual color of a Poinsettia plant, at least not one I have ever seen. I love how you colored it and that background is amazing! I just got some big dot stamps and I will have to do a background like you did for a card. Your card is so beautiful as usual. I would expect nothing less! LOL
My sister bought me a pair of leggings. They have dots all over them, white dots on black pants. While they are cool on their own, they are kind of boring for a crafter like me. Guess what I am going to do with them? I am going to color some of them in and I am going to put crystals on some of them. I’m not sure exactly how I will do it, like half colored and half crystals, but they will look so fun and funky when I get done with them that they won’t look like the same pants. I will post a photo when I get done with them.
Off to the next hopper on the blog. I can’t wait to win something! Can’t wait for the next coloring contest!

Wow Kathy!!!! Every time I pop into your blog your coloring gets even better!!! And I don’t know how that’s possible because it’s already amazing to begin with!!! I am seriously in awe at the way you colored these beautiful poinsettias! Your shading and highlights are IMPECCABLE and I especially like the brown veins in the stems and leaves instead of just the normal green on green. Kinda pissed I just got rid of my Prismacolor pencils now!! (They hurt my hand, so I was never using them lol). Take care
