Folding book marks

IMG_3378

Hello Friends, How are you? Today I am a guest on the Power Poppy blog for another “Inspire Me Monday” post and I am sharing a pair of folded book mark cards created with this stamp set.

Each book mark has a wash of color.

and a little bling with some sequins.

To get the wash of watercolor I use mostly water….this is the only way I can get a soft pastely look. I have more photos with some step by step photos on the Power Poppy blog if you are interested. Have a wonderful week. So grateful for your visit. Hugs, Kathy

P.S. On ANOTHER NOTE: Have you caught wind that my next 30 day coloring challenge is around the corner …. JULY 5th! I have more details coming soon. Here is a video that might answer some questions in the meantime.

I love your bookmarks. I know several avid readers who would love these…great colors and your step by step instructions were easy to follow.

I happened to have tried my hand at some watercoloring over the weekend and, let’s just say, I should stick to Copics. My colors get too muddy and I know there’s a fix for this, just don’t know what it is. I am definitely NO ARTIST!!! Just a wannabe. LOL

Jan~ Please don’t give up on water coloring!! Keep trying and you will get the hang of it!! I was having the same problem and I got a color wheel and now I know what colors shouldn’t mix because they will muddy! I am now addicted to all things water color!! Good luck! You CAN DO IT!!

Oh Jan…. don’t put your brush down just yet …or wait until the coloring challenge. I know you can do this. 🙂 P.S. I will be doing more videos and have you tried OnLine Card Classes watercoloring class? Hugs

Don’t give up Jan!! I was absolutely horrible in the beginning and went to YouTube and followed along, step by step and got the hang of it. I’m no Kathy Racoosin, but I’m happy with my results for the most part. I DID give up on alcohol markers because I was impatient and now I’m regretting getting rid of them. Stick with it….you CAN do it! ~HUGS~

I was absolutely horrible using a regular paintbrush because I pick up too much water. Bonnie Kreb pinches her wet paintbrush before she picks up any color, but I’m still too messy for that. I’ve had better success using a water brush because the water well in the handle controls how much moisture goes down to the bristles. I squirt a drop of water on the watercolor cake, let it sit a moment to let the pigment dissolve, then pick it up with my brush. I also keep a paper towel handy to absorb any extra water that wants to bleed. Let dry and go over it with another coat to make it darker in the shadow area. My first challenge I tried watercolor cakes which I like best, but I also tried watercolor pencils and watercolor crayons. I’m going to practice some more on my watercolor this time around too in the upcoming challenge. Keep trying — they say practice makes perfect! *wink* =0)

Oh, what a delight to have Kathy Jones from Power Poppy as the guest today. I saw her amazing bookmarks on Inspire Me Monday and loved them, and these make great gifts. Thanks, Kathy, for sharing your ideas and amazing coloring. And, yes, I can attest to the steep learning curve after using Copic markers. So keep at it…I am! Hehe! Hugs, and thanks, Kathy!

Thanks for sharing so many great ideas as well as these beautiful bookmarks. Since I volunteer with 2nd graders, I make a LOT of bookmarks, but very few by hand. This might be something I’ll try for them too.

Thanks ladies for such encouragement. I’m not usually a quitter, but sometimes I find it difficult to recognize my own limitations. I got a color wheel today and I’m guessing you should use colors together that are directly across from each other to avoid the muddy effect….???? Am I understanding it correctly? Maybe I’ll give it another go….thanks so much.
