Yesterday I had the luxury to have some time to think out of the box and spend some time on today’s card. It’s unusual for me to do a card specific to a holiday and it’s fun that the 4th is during the 30 day coloring challenge. A little bird told me that Power Poppy is having a big sale clearing out their Christmas stamps. This happens to be a Christmas stamp! (More on the sale below)
I was looking through my stamps and I wanted an open petal with three blooms. This was perfect. I grabbed my Water Media Mat and my distress inks and set out to watercolor. Both flowers are colored with distress ink and the white flower is painted with white opaque paint. I can’t wait to use this on some kraft watercolor paper.
Distress inks were used to paint the stripes with a broader brush to move the paint on the paper more efficiently. I was deciding if I should add a sentiment and when I looked at the Amaryllis Bliss stamp set the “Peace” hit me. What we need in our very own country is some peace, acceptance and kindness.
When I was cleaning up a water speck fell on the card … such a happy accident and idea. I decided to add more colored spats by tapping the brush over my card. So unusual for me and such fun!

I love this card & I love the patriotic holidays. My dad died 2 years ago but he got a Purple Heart in WWII so those holidays were important to us. I love how you did the splatter painting & how patriotic it is. You did an amazing job!

I’d say Happy 4th of July to you but I’m rather late in getting around to reading your posts and we don’t celebrate the 4th here in NZ, but we do celebrate Matariki (the Maori New Year) at this time, so there is always something to celebrate.

I love this image. The patriotic theme is more implied than overt which is neat to see. This would work for many of the colour challenges that were posted over the last couple of weeks!
