Day 15. Altenew Nov. Release Blog Hop & Giveway

altenewbloghop_nov152016

Hello and welcome to Day 15 of the 30 Day Coloring Challenge. It’s hard to believe we are half way through the challenge already. I hope that you have been enjoying finding a few minutes to color each day.  If you’re new to the coloring challenge or have any questions about the coloring challenge you can refer to this post.

dsc_0064

Today I’m sharing 2 cards and a video (How to Fake Watercoloring) as part of a blog hop celebrating the November release from Altenew. Are you a fan of Altenew? I am a huge fan of their stamp sets and of May, the marketing director 🙂

dsc_0069

A collector is something that has always been a trait of mine. One of my many collections are bone china tea cups. When I saw this stamp set called, “Vintage Tea Cup” I almost cried lol. The coordinating die cuts will be one of the first things in my shopping cart.

dsc_0076

The leaves in my background are from the new “Hello Sunshine” whimsical florals that I adore. This card was colored with Tombow markers on regular cardstock. (you have to be super careful so your paper doesn’t pill). A little dot action on the leaves on my “wallpaper”.

img_2032

The tablecloth that the doily is glued to … I stamped the steam from the Vintage Tea Cup to resemble a contemporary pattern. I fussy cut the tea cup and colored the tea set  a bright orange on my card panel.

dsc_0066

L.O.V.E. this stamp set called, “Adore You” … watch the video to see how to Fake Watercoloring … I am only sharing this video because you guys like to see the process or my journey lol.  If you only knew how many times I almost gave up . The background plaid was painted with distress ink and a flat brush …. yes wonky likes are ok 🙂

In my opinion this stencil is what my flowers go from drab to fab lol.

dsc_0073

What I love most about these florals is the variety of sizes and shapes …perfect for a bouquet. Lucy’s Little Things sequin mixes are the perfect little final touch. I use matte medium to keep my sequins on my cards.

Tim Holtz’s doily stencil saved my flowers and gave them the pizzaz and color variation I was craving. I am so excited that the stencil is back in stock .

Your flowers are fabulous and sooooo appreciate the video, especially since water-colouring and I are *not* always on the best of terms *grin* Your teacup…oh my! Or more specifically, discovering that you collect vintage teacups, is today’s highlight! I have, sitting on the ‘open space’ above our cupboards, a set of china teacups and saucers, from my grandmother. They have floral prints and are sooooo beautiful! What makes them ultra special are the memories they’re infused with. After my sister and I “helped” my grandparents milk the cows early in the morning (we were more a nuisance than anything, I suspect, but we did feed the calves, clean the barn and try to be ‘farm girls) and finish the other stores, we’d head inside for breakfast. Grandpa would have a bowl of wheat puffs, two slices of toast and coffee, brewed on the wood burning stove. My sister and I…oh my! Grandma would make us ‘toast fingers’ spread with Beehive syrup, two potato chips and two cheesies (only two of each *grin* as our ‘breakfast dessert) and hot cocoa, served in the china teacups. Fancy schmancy…every. single. morning. My parents could only shake their heads. Yep, we were spoiled…my grandparents were awesome! Anyway…I LOVE my teacups…and thank you for sparking and letting me share treasured moments. I’m going to grab a chair and give my teacups some love… (and a nice dish-soap bath!).
    Hugs~carol

    Hi again Kathy!

I collect beautiful tea cups, saucers and matching teapots also! In fact, my bridal shower was a big tea party, we wire hats, and sundresses, everyone brought different pieces of their team sets, and we drank from them while we ate all of the baked goods…everything had chocolate of some sort in it! My gifts were almost all tea cup sets and teapots! It,was so much fun for, all! I suggest you have a Tea Party for a birthday or any day! You did a beautiful job on your cup and saucer…had a shine on it like real China!

Fake watercoloringredients? Girlfriend call it whatever you want, but I am calling that bouquet and card SPECTACULAR! Are all Tom Bow markers water-based so you can paint with them? I really want to get some! Love the vibrancy of the colors! I have never, to my knowledge anyway, seen someone stamp, paint and cut each flower/stem separately! The way you moved the pieces to intertwine them in such a real way, and THEN used adhesive to hold them in place just blew my mind! I have only tried masking and stamping. You have such a realistic looking bouquet! I know you didn’t feel that things were coming together as beautifully as usual, for you, when you were painting it. I really, truly think this may be my new “Favorite Card of Kathy’s!” “F.C.o.K” for short. LOL! It actually made me smile and now I’m giggling while my husband is asleep beside me (It’seems after 1am!) Thank you for SO MANY tips on this card! You keep showing me tit’s and techniques that just convinces me that I WILL be able to make an amazing card some day! I’Lloyd be practicing until then.

    He-IS-Able!

I forgot to mention that I too have a tea cup collection. I already had a few and my grandmother willed me her. My mother loved them (and used them when entertaining) and asked if she could add them to her collection. Of course I said “Yes, as long as I get them ALL when you die.” She passed away almost a year ago now and I proudly display them in two different cabinets.

I can totally relate to your excitement when you saw *the perfect stamp set* being released! I had the same feeling when I saw the sweet little viking family stamp set by Clearly Besotted. I have 4yo twin boys, and one of them likes pirates and the other vikings. Pirates are pretty easy to get your hands on, there are lots of cute sets out there. But vikings? There was only one single viking (by Avery Elle). And while it was really cute, and I bought it right away, it just wouldn't compare to any of the pirate sets with lots of accessories. So yes, I cried with joy when I saw the set 🙂

PS: Sorry for being so wordy. Had a looong day and can't think straight anymore lol

Oh my gosh, with the way I’ve been winning stuff and the fact that I can count on one hand the number of times I have won anything in 61 years (we can’t count this year because I have been winning or it would say 62) I can’t believe I missed a blog hop! Even with my broken foot I was hopping all over the place!LOL We will try not to do that again, but I make no promises.
Your tea cup is so adorable! I’m not a big fan of tea cups as I don’t drink tea but we have a tea set that was my grandmothers that has dragons on it and says I think Occupied Japan on the underside. They are different shades of blue and green. They might be worth money right now. My grandmother passed away in 1963 and she was 63 so they are probably pretty old. I think we even have one from American Airlines when my sister worked there. That might be from the 80’s. That one is not as old! LOL I love how you colored it and the lace doily, which my grandmother used to tatter, adds just the right touch.
Those flowers are so amazing! They look like a real bouquet of flowers. Thank you for the beautiful flowers. Oh, they aren’t for me? Darn it all! LOL I love the look and I’m sure you fussy cut them. I’ve recently learned that fussy cutting means you took out a pair of very sharp scissors and cut around them oh so carefully to get them to look like that. I don’t always like to do that but if I could get that look like you did, I’d do it in a heartbeat.
Did you really color that background plaid paper or did you buy it? If you colored it, my hats off to you because it looks like paper you would buy in Michael’s. You said you colored it but it looks to perfect, although you seem to do a lot of perfect things, so you probably did. I love everything and will save the video to my crafts folder so I can watch it later.

What a great idea to layer the teacup.
You would think the leaf pattern and the
pattern on the cup would be too much
alike and would disappear into each
other – but they don’t. Love the lace
    tablecloth. Wonderful card.
The bouquet of flowers is beautiful.
    thanks for sharing.
