Great image and really fun coloring! They do have some really fun stamps, and you still rock, no matter what you color WITH. (Sandy Allnock has a video about her favorite sharpener. It’s electric, which surprised me. I had always heard you can’t sharpen colored pencils in an electric sharpener because they get too hot. I think Jennifer McGuire might also have done a video with recommendations about sharpening colored pencils; it was either her or Kristina Werner, or both of them!) Thanks for all you do. Let us know when you find a great one.

I love love love Purple Onion Designs, particularly Stacey Yacula’s designs. I will eventually have every single stamp — not QUITE there yet. lol Thanks to Michelle for the giveaway! Oh…and I love my pencils. I find I have so much more control with them. I still need way more practice with my alcohol markers to feel as confident with those as I do with my pencils. And sharp points is the ONLY way to go. 🙂

What kind of paper did you use? I don’t find most card stock good for colored pencil
..it’s too smooth and the pencil doesn’t stick…something with tooth is better…but then that’s hard to get a good stamp impression on…bit of a dilemma for me.

Love the joy emanating from your Snowman! grin! I use either watercolor markers or watercolor paint to lay down the first layer of color, depending on what I have on hand at the moment and then layer the dry colored pencils over that. Coloring pencils need to be sharp (I have an old school mechanical pencil sharpener on the wall and get my exercise for the day every time I have to get up to use it. grin!) and depending on the pressure, you can do all the same shading techniques with your pencils as you do with the copics. I have asthma, so don’t use gamsol, however, you can smooth your colors together by going back over it with a colorless blender pencil or the lightest shade of color. I love Purple Onion’s stamp designer Stephanie Ackerman, btw.

Yeah, I know, it’s late and that’s probably why I didn’t see the smile on the face in the first place. I have an amazing pencil sharpener that came with my chalk pencils. I love the point it gives all my pencils even though I am only supposed to use it on my chalk pencils. Hey, what are you supposed to do if you are at a doctors office and you need to sharpen a pencil away? I love your card and I see we have some of the same brand of pencils. Great minds think alike! Love the way you combined Distress Ink with colored pencils! I recommend sharpening your pencils with a sanding board. You can find it at art stores or online with drawing/sketching supplies. It’s a short 2″ wide “stick” with sandpaper layers. You just “sand” any pencil to a point & you won’t waste any of your colored lead by
breaking it off in a sharpener. Hope this tip helps, Kathy!

Well done! Thanks for another colored pencil demo. The snowman is so full of joy, but I hope he/she doesn’t stay out in that bright sun too long. Your next coloring attempt may be much different if he/she does. 😉 Now that you’ve honored our request for colored pencils, do you have any techniques for oil pastels? I found a huge set of 39 the other day at Goodwill for $1.99. (Some are missing and they’re Loony Tunes brand, so probably not the best, but who can pass up a deal like, even if it’s just to scribble around a bit.) I haven’t checked out Purple Onion for a while, but I can see from this image that it’s time for another look.

Derwent battery operated pencil sharpener is great for Colored pencils. It has two sizes, doesn’t eat them, nor have I sharpened them to a sharp point, but the perfect rounded easy point nice to color with. It’s $54 on amazon. I paid $36 for mine last year. It’s great for an electric sharpener.
