giveaway october card kit

Hello Friends, Today I bring your Simon Says Stamp OCTOBER 2013 CARD KIT and it’s a wowza!! With each months reveal I’m lucky to give one away!! Woo Hoo!

Each month I mention what a great value the kits are because I truly believe the value is exceptional. Only $19.95 plus s&h🙂  Click here to check out the details.

(If you purchased the kit and win you will be credited for the amount of the kit.)
(Included in each card kit is an inspiration sheet with 6 ideas using the kit.  You’ll also receive ideas via email newsletter with even more project ideas and video links using the items in the kit.)

What I love most about receiving Simons Card Kit in the mail is the unexpected goodies. Papers that are a hot topic, a stamp set that always has me jumping and embellishments that bring new life to my cards.
On my card I wanted to combine Lawn Fawn’s beautiful papers and the perfect fall stamp set called, “Giving Thanks”. The most beautiful sequins on the market from Lawn Fawn because of the different sizes and colors.

I stamped on the back of the patterned paper and cut out the stamped image I was using for a tree top.

This memento marker I use daily to use on the white edge of my paper or images because I rarely get a smudge and I get a finished look to my cards.
Add some distress ink with a dauber and your tree tops are finished. Pop on your card.
GIVEAWAY:

I’ve used a marker to fill in a tiny gap if an image didn’t stamp as well as I’d have liked, but not on the edges. I’ll have to try that!

I’ve never used a marker on the edge of a die cut shape like this! What a good idea. I often do this to fix up my stamped images, because I’m terrible at fussy cutting! 🙂 I love your card…such a beautiful fall scene!

I do use a black marker when I fussy cut a stamped image. I find that it hides your uneven stamping and makes the image stand out more!

I do use markers whenever I fussy cut my image, it gives a clean finish to it…

I do use a black marker when I fusssy cut an image. I think it was Kristina Werner who taught me this trick in one of her videos. Love the new card kit. I think they are getting better and better. Also love how you rotated one of your tee tops and tweaked the branches to create different trees. Wonderful scene!

    September 17, 2013 at 11:17 am

Your tree scene is adorable! Love the tip about stamping on the back.

I do use a marker frequently for a border on photos, embellies, fussy-cutting and paper piecing. It gets rid of those white edges that annoy me and helps the piece stand out against the background.

  21. Miriam Prantner says

    September 17, 2013 at 11:20 am

I really love this kit, my favorite so far I think, the stamp set is great and I love the papers. Yes, I will use a marker on the edges of my stamped images, but mostly for corrections if it didn’t stamp well, or if I’m fussy cutting/piecing to get the definition back.

  22. rommelsmom4 says

  23. ~ginny says

You betcha baby!! Markers on the edge are a must for me. Rather than black though I frequently will use the darkest color in the image rather than black… as in around the clothing it will be the darkest shade of the clothing, around the face the darkest skin tones, etc.

  24. Kelly Massman says

    September 17, 2013 at 11:53 am

I don’t usually use a marker for the edges, but I do occasionally rub ink on them. I love the October kit and your card! Trees and leaves are a family favorite as my hubby turns logs into beautiful pieces of art!!! 🙂

I use a marker or a foam pad with distress ink to finish off the edge of a cut out image. It gives a nice look to the card. Love your card, shari. Thanks for all the ideas.I love the look of the card. I appreciate the opportunity to win the kit.

Beautiful card and I would love to get the October kit! I often use a marker and sometime I also put some embossing powder to make the edges a little bit more shiny. In other cases I do some distress but I just use some cotton balls from my beauty cabinet for it.

  35. Paula (PEP) says

    September 17, 2013 at 1:13 pm

I had to smile over the marker – yes, it was one of my first discoveries when fussy cutting stamped images – & yes the Memento one is my favourite, especially as I can heat set it. The sequins look gorgeous & I love the way you created the tree tops with different patterns on them. Thanks for continuing to give such inspiration.

Hi kathy, you know I never thought to use a marker before. Have always used ink pads. Have used a black marker to touch up cut images if there is white showing or to fix a cut that took too much of the black outline. Love these kits, have never ordered as postage to Australia would probably make them too expensive, a shame hey!

I am glad to see more bloggers mentioning using markers to color the edge of their die cuts. I have been doing this for years and wondered if I was one of a random few that did it because it wasn’t mentioned or shown in videos but it is popping up more and more. I was in awe when I saw the reveal of the next card kit; I am really enjoying them.

Sometimes I ink the edges of my stamped images and sometimes I don’t. I guess it just depends on the project and whether or not I want it at that time.

Those trees are just fantastic! I have never tried using my markers on the side of stamped images, but guess what I will now!

Your questions always show me that I don´t have all the things I need to craft… I don´t have markers!!! 🙁
    Thanks for the chance…

I love all the layering of your images! Such a wonderful scene you’ve created! I don’t usually use a marker on the edges, but now that I’ve seen the difference it makes I think I need to! Thanks so much for all you’ve shared here! I am definitely pinning your card as I’m really inspired and want to share it with others!

finally forced me to find a blogging RSS Newsfeed software since I’ve converted to a imac and use safari, all of which were new to me a few months ago! lol. anyway, back to card making – I love the trees, and I never (WHY?) stamped a shape that has it’s own background on the reverse side just to get the shape to paperpiece. DUH! I do usually use my Stampin Up! black marker in my top drawer for running smooth fine line around my paper piece / die cut, especially the ones that are figures/characters. THANK YOU

I use a marker on the edges; because I use the narrow nib end of the Zig Calli Pen to address envelopes, I use that wide nib (very wide!) on the edges. It quickly develops a notch that the paper fits into.

I use a marker when I fussy cut. It defines the image better and also hides the core if it’s a different colour. Definitely gives a more professional finish. Love your scene card and the sentiment stamped on the tree. Great idea

I mostly use a distress tool and a matching ink to finish off my cut or card edges!! I have tried marked! but I always seem to get an excess of bleeding onto my image!! So inking is easier and neater for me!! thanks for the chance to win and ILOVE all of your AMAZING card inspiration!! Have a fabulous Week!! 😉

  237. Sallee P. says

    September 23, 2013 at 7:58 pm

I have, but not always with success! Actually I think the problem was that it wasn’t a stamped image — it was just a hand-drawn cut-out and it was white. The black marker edge made it look worse. And so I was like, duh, this really only helps stamped images where you can color the edge to match the outline. Always learning!
