Tags with NEW Penny Black Stamps

Hello Friends, This week on the Penny Black Blog we have been sharing elegant cards with Penny Black’s new & exciting Christmas release. Today is my turn on the blog so I have two tags to share.

IMG_3125
This flower called “Christmas Pride” is one of my favorites of the entire release.  I love the overall size and the way you can dress it up or down. I started with a black tag, this beautiful foil vellum and watercolor paper . I stamped the flower two times on the watercolor paper using gold embossing ink. I added the distress inks (see supply list) with a dauber so I could control the color. (I wanted to add shading that was coming from a light source.) Then I sprayed heavily with perfect pearls and waited patiently for it to do it’s magic. When dry cut & curl up the petals.

(I took one of Jennifer McGuire’s classes and learned this technique from her. Thanks sweet Jennifer 🙂

You can see the foil vellum in the background of the tag. Love this stuff. I stamped another flower on green paper with black ink for the bottom layer and embossed the paisley outline stamp on top of it. The sentiment was stamped with gold metallic ink. I just have to share this project with you I made last year with the gold foil vellum. It’s distresses so beautifully because of the gold foil.

This tag isn’t necessarily for Christmas. I used the PB script background on the flower and the background. For this tag I started with Copic X-Press It paper and colored with Copic markers. I really paid attention to my light source and where the light was coming from. ( I hope to have a tutorial in the future on this) For the background I used distress inks and outlined the flowers with a blue Copic (B00)

It’s really hard to see all of the glittery goodness on this tag. The texture was added by applying dots on  the petals with red stickles. To avoid sprays of embossing dust I like to use this powder before I use my embossing power. I hope all of you are safe from this hurricane. Hugs to all, Kathy

Your use of ribbon colours on each tag is just brilliant & I love how the flower comes off the edges on each tag. the layering suits this stamp so well & the contrasting green “leaves” on the first is so realistic. I’d not have thought of using pink for the background matting but is really ‘pops’ with the contrasting blacks & greens. I’m very interested in your light source tutorial & look forward to that. You continue to teach me much in the way of the small details – that’s what makes your work so interesting & quite distinctive.
