Penny Black’s NEW Christmas Stamps

Hello Friends, How has your week been so far? My husband and I just went to Utah for a mini trip without our kids. I’ll share  a  few photos at the end of the post if you are interested.
This week the Penny Black DT has been showcasing the new Christmas stamps. Have you seen them? This weeks feature is a nature theme and  I created this ornament card for the Penny Black blog today.

When you stop over at their blog you will see the stamps that I combined to create this ornament. I added an extra layer so the back would open up to write a message and then the recipent can hang it from their tree.  This cling stamp was created to work with the Spellbinder large circle so you can create Christmas cards quickly. I used this  scalloped circle die for the back of the ornament.   I will be sharing different variations of this stamp in the next few weeks.  I think it’s safe to say that you will love working with this stamp.

After stamping I cut out the tree with some scissor, added some white gel pen accents and Stickles to the holly.

I used this wood block stamp to create the inside of the tree by combining distress inks on white paper.

I think this would be great to insert a family photo instead of a stamped image. I added distress ink to the background and green colored pencil. I put Glossy Accents on top of the ornaments and the next day I sewed on TOP of the Glossy Accents with some glittery embroidery floss. The “Sew Easy” piercing mat was very useful. I pierced my holes first so I was able to sew this while I was on my exercise bike.

I wanted to “illuminate” the ornaments so I added some color with a Copic marker from the back to give a warm glow. The stitching is messy because  the background hides this.
It’s nice to be back home and I want to thank you for your visit. As promised here are a few pictures of our trip to Utah if you are curious.

This was up the mountain from our friends time share in Deer Vally.
This was an hour hike up to the top of this mountain. We ate our lunch on this rock and the weather was perfection. The flies made sure we didn’t stay still to long and we were on the lookout for some moose but, didn’t see any.
Apparently the flowers on the mountain were unusual and appeared from all of the rain this season.  Our friend used this tripod to take our group photo. I thought it was a fun picture against this beautiful natural scenery.
This is Olympic Park and we were able to watch the freestyle skiing practice underway. The stunts from the skiers on the ramp left us in awe as they fliped, turned and twisted in the air and landing into the pool. It was soooo cool. I can’t wait for the Olympics.
One of these apples were the prefect end to a great day.
Our first day we went to an art show and we stumbled on this fun project for childern. These hats were made from paper bags, painted and the kids decorated them with all kids of fun things. I thought this was awesome and if my kids were younger I would do this for their Birthday.

Thanks for hanging with me and I hope you have a great day. Hugs, Kathy

SUPPLIES: New stamps will be available later this month.

Wow this is gorgeous! I love the way you did the tree and I agree a photo would go in there well but I love the little bird. I’ve never heard of coloring from the back of the card like that but what a wonderful result!

Kathy I so love this idea that I am making some of these to sell at a Craft Fair and to give away. I so love how you always come up with so many wonderful things. I guess that is one of the many reasons PB snatched you up right quick. Your amazing. Hugs. Left you some love over at the PB site too.

Thanks for sharing your photos from the trip – looks like you had an amazing time. As for the card – I just sat & looked & drank in the way you’d used colour theory complementary principles for the colour duos of red & green, blue & yellow. That copic shining light technique is an eye-opener also. Thank you so much for all the info.
