Watercoloring on Vellum with Tombow Markers

Hello Friends,
I am so excited to share with you today my tutorial using Tombow watercolor markers on vellum.

Celebrate
Stamp your flower in a random pattern on the vellum with Versa Mark ink. If you are stamping in a well lit area you will be able to see where you are stamping since Versa Mark is clear. Use a fine white embossing powder like Zing(OPAQUE White Embossing Powder) to emboss your images.
(When embossing on the vellum move your heat tool more than normal around the area so the paper doesn’t burn. )

Stamp two extra flowers and a butterfly with Memento black ink on some white scrap card stock.

Now it’s time for my favorite part…coloring! All of these images were colored the same way. You will notice that the color moves quicker on the vellum because of the smooth surface.

I like to begin with a painters palette because it’s easy for me to see and I feel like I am a watercolorists!  Lay your colors on the palette by scribbling on the white surface. I will apply the color to the side of the vellum that was heat embossed.

Before you begin  I recommend you practice on a piece of scrap paper.
Take your Tombow blender pen and rub the tip into your first color from the palette. Using the tip that now has the  color on it …. dab each petal with a small about of color on the tips only as shown below.

After you dabbed all the petals you can go back to each petal, with the tip this time color the entire petal. This movement with the tip will give you a water color look on your petals. You might need to reload your tip onto the pallet. If you are NOT getting the water color look on your petals you might have to much ink on your tip. So wipe some off as I have on the top left corner of the photo (see the scrap paper with squiggles) . It might take a little practice but, I promise you will love the look and feel of these markers on vellum.

When you are finished I like to flip the embossed vellum that you just colored and to lay onto my card. You might like your image with the embossing on the front. The neat thing is you have to different looks for one technique.

Here is the inside of the flower card.

I forward to seeing all of the entries for the vellum challenge here.  Have a great weekend! Hugs, Kathy
