How to Color w/ Distress Ink, Hop & Giveaway

Winter_bloghop_600

Hello Friends, How are you? Today I am delighted to be partaking in Hero Arts Winter Catalog Blog Hop. It’s the launch of the Winter 2016 release in the Hero Arts store!! The best part is the products are ready to ship but, before you go anywhere I have two cards and a video for you PLUS giveaway details. Woo Hoo!

To start at the beginning go to Hero Arts blog click here. If you are arriving from one of my dearest friends, Jennifer McGuire’s blog you are in the right place.

IMG_0148

This release is pretty bangin and I think you will see lots of holiday cards today so I am giving you a different spin with my cards. My first card can be used any time of the year … I think.

IMG_0150

My video is at the bottom of my post… it’s all about the key elements in both of my cards. I love mistletoe … so I stamped the background with Bundled Sage, Cracked Pistachio & Mowed Lawn then I colored part of the background and added some vellum to soften the background.

IMG_0141

I colored my twine with distress ink and then gave it a good coating of rock candy distress stickles. Glossy Accents were used on the berries.

IMG_0139

The mistletoe in the “Holly Days” was colored with distress ink. Fun… quick and easy if you don’t mind fussy cutting. I figure the time you save by not “coloring” you can bank that for fussy cutting.

IMG_0149

For this card I combined Holly Days and Vintage Post. These two stamps set are so lovely to combine. I love cardinals but, felt like the red was to much on my card plus I wanted to show you that there are other options with birds.

IMG_0151

The bird was colored with distress ink and white accents were added with a gel pen.

IMG_0140

My moon was masked off with this masking paper and more distess ink was applied. Check out the video below to see all the details.

Beautiful cards Kathy, the mistletoe is just stunning, those distress stickles have now gone on my list – perfect for Christmas. And the holly/bird card is just gorgeous – such great ideas on how to colour with distress inks – I never do this and I must try it. Thank you as always for your inspiration, Lisa xx

Love the way you changed the bird to be more subtle, looks similar to a female cardinal. You could also make it a Bluejay! Thanks for sharing. I also like the way you added shine using different products.

Okay, what is going on? I swear I commented on this one and I can’t find it! Where did it go? I haven’t been on-line in 2 days as I’ve been away so I have to finish up the blog hop tonight. Now I am commenting on something I am sure I commented on before. I hope I can finish the hop.
When I first saw the first card with the mistletoe I was wondering why you put an herb on your Christmas card. You see, I’ve never seen real mistletoe before. We have some we hang up every year but it’s plastic and it doesn’t look like what you did. I like it and I can see how you can use it for any occasion. Hey, I thought it was an herb like Rosemary or something! LOL I love how you fussy cut it but I never hard it called that. I always called it cutting it out. When I first heard fussy cut I wondered what you meant.
I love the bird and how real the stamp looks. I love your background and how pretty the card looks. You, like Jen, do such beautiful work! I am impressed!

Again, you had me at vellum! What a nice touch to a gorgeous card. I think the background came out just fine only coloring 3/4 of it. Who’d have known if you didn’t tell us? And, you’re right–we all want peace in the world and this card would be good for many occasions. I can easily see it as a sympathy card. You are not only an expert colorer, but an expert fussy cutter. Both cards are delightful, as always. Thanks for your always thorough walk through videos.

The mistletoe card is just stunning! I try to make a card like this for my dad periodically. Its been years since he lost my mom, but I know there are certain times of the year that are harder than others and its a good reminder that he will find peace again soon and that others are thinking of him. Such a pretty card Kathy!
