30 DAY COLORING CHALLENGE

Hello Friends, How are you today? A few weeks ago I mentioned that I had something fun that I was working on and I am so excited to share what that is today 🙂

challenge_graphic-4-revised

THIS Wednesday March 4th I am hosting a 30 DAY COLORING CHALLENGE & I would love for you to join me.

The idea is to color something everyday even if it’s for five minutes. Just five minutes that’s it. Some days you or I will have more time and that’s even better. It’s just about adding more time to color and carve out a little time for something that makes you happy. Just so you know I will NOT be making a card every day … just coloring.

The definition of coloring is the act or method of applying color so that means I will be using many mediums to color during the 30 days. I HAVE A VIDEO TO SHARE HOW I ORGANIZED MY SUPPLIES (I want to have my supplies at the ready for easy access).

CAN YOU PARTICIPATE IN MY 30 DAY CHALLENGE?: Wow that would be awesome if you want to participate or jump in at any time.Woo Hoo!!  THERE ARE A FEW WAYS TO SHARE what you are coloring even if you don’t color everyday. You can share your work where ever you are comfortable like Facebook, Instagram, Flicker, your Blog etc. If you use this hashtag #thedailymarker30day I can find your work or you can link with the Inlinkz tool on Day One on my blog. If you don’t card Instagram is the easiest for me to comment on your art work.

WILL THERE BE PRIZES? YES! You can’t have a challenge without prizes right? FOUR participants will win goodie bags chock full of stuff. I will randomly select 2 winners from my blog and 2 winners from Instagram at the end of the 30 day challenge. The more you share the more chances you have to win.  If you share on Instagram you must use the #thedailymarker30day (so I can find your projects). If you share by linking on my blog you don’t have to use the hashtag. (the InLinkz tool will be on the DAY ONE POST) Please share on one or the other 🙂 thanks

The winners will be announced on my blog Monday April 6th so please check back to see if you won.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM ME: I will be posting on my blog daily and on Instagram daily. SOME DAYS I might make a one layer card & some days I might just color an image. There will be days I will use my watercolor sketch book (a must have) to draw or paint and somedays if something is more complex I will come back to it the next day. There will be watercoloring with different mediums and I will be using all kinds of different markers such as Sharpies, Bic markers and Copics.

THE GOAL IS:  To color something everyday no matter what happening. (I know that I am happier when I am coloring even if it’s for 10 minutes.) I also want to show you that you can use inexpensive supplies to create something pretty. Hopefully together along the way we will all stretch our creativity a little bit more.

ANY QUESTIONS: If you have a question please leave a comment and I will answer the question in the comment area on this post.

I hope you are as excited as I am and I am beyond thrilled that you might consider playing along. (as I mentioned feel free to jump in and out of the 30 days if that makes you more comfortable). Thanks!!Kathy

So today I saw your blog post about this challenge, and thought ” Maybe this is just what I need!!” So I am gonna take you on girlfriend!!! Lol. So I am gonna do this for 30 days and I love that it doesn’t have to be making a card for 30 days but coloring for 30 days. It is a great way to get some images prepared for future creations. So I am excited and I am wondering if there is a time that we start and finish each day or whenever we are done that day to post it to our blog or somewhere online? Anyway I am looking forward to getting started. I am gonna actually go and find the things that you have on your list here or things that are similar. I trust that your doing well and that your new year is off to a great start. Looking forward to starting this journey with you. Love & Prayers

I’m actually really excited for this challenge. It makes me wish I had more stamps that were colourable but I have some book pages with line art I’ve been hoarding to colour and a few other items that I keep putting off. Such an inspiration!

    • Kathy Racoosin says

      March 2, 2015 at 11:16 pm

Hurray Cassandra so happy you will be playing along. There will be lots of different things we will be coloring (not all stamped images) Have you tired digital images? Thats an inexpensive way and it’s fun because you can play with the size. You don’t need a fancy printer either. I just download the image to “word” and print it from there. 🙂

    • Kathy Racoosin says

      March 4, 2015 at 12:49 am

I love to color too and wish I had more time for it, but you’re so right – even if it’s just for 5 or 10 minutes, it helps make my day better! Thank you for bringing this challenge to us – hugs! ♥

I’m DEFINITELY going to join in! I’ve been doing #yearofmaking for 2 weeks now…which is the longest I’ve ever managed on a make-something-every-day type project so this will fit in nicely. I’m also slowing working my way into Instagram, so this is perfect! I’m sure I won’t manage to blog every day (I hope to do that in chunks), but I can sure take a simple picture and post it every day! Thanks so much for the great idea and great inspiration!

    • Kathy Racoosin says

      March 4, 2015 at 12:34 am

Thanks Marissa. OMG do not post everyday that’s crazy and way to much work. You can also upload to flickr to share your work on INlinkz if that makes sense. BUT the idea is to color and enjoy and not stress so how every you can simplify the better. So happy you are taking the challenge 🙂

  46. Joan VanCourt says

    March 3, 2015 at 10:38 am

Hi Kathy. Thanks for the video. Going to assemble my items today to join in on your challenge. I am new to Instagram, so I need to figure that out. I never used the Bic or Sharpies to color, either. Here is my dilemma… I could sit and color forever, but what if I color something and I don’t have the pretty designer papers to match? Or do you prematch your paper and then color? Just a thought. I guess this is what hangs me up on precoloring images for future use. HELP. LOL.

    • Kathy Racoosin says

      March 4, 2015 at 12:28 am

Hi Joan, You don’t need to be in Instagram to join in but, it’s a great community if someone can show you how. I am using different mediums because not everyone has Copic markers…you don’t need them. I never pre match cardstock but, I just solid colors mostly. So happy you are taking the challenge 🙂

Thanks for the pre-challenge video. I’m going to join you in the coloring challenge. You mentioned you may not be making cards everyday … that’s what got me thinking about joining in. I’m going to color images everyday and not make them into cards until later. That way I can explore the markers and pens and just have fun without worry about the design of a card.

I’m in! I recently purchased a mixed media art journal, keep it by my chair with a variety of pens and pencils. My”rule” for using it–no erasing! I’m highly critical of my work so told myself I can’t erase, just go with the flow. I can easily draw or color while I watch TV in the evenings. I also want to play with some other mediums, today plan to try stamping and coloring with alcohol inks. I also just purchased a smart watch, to track my exercise and sleep. It vibrates after an hour of no moving, which is great, now I can color every day and move–and it will make me happy! Thanks for having this challenge, it will motivate to get more things done and practice coloring!

    • Kathy Racoosin says

      March 4, 2015 at 12:19 am

Thanks Beth, Just take it day by day and see how you do. Jumping in and out is sooo fine if that’s what works best. Just so that we all color more is the goal 🙂

I colored my way through nursing school and officer candidate school (Navy) as a way to relax. The only supplies I had was a box of Crayola’s and a coloring book. It was a great way to unwind and de-stress between classes or at the end of the day! Only just now re-discovering how much fun it is. And I have way more toys to play with. Can’t wait. Unfortunately, I will be having hand surgery later this month and will be in a cast for three months. I am afraid it will mess with my messy art time as well as my garden-planting. We’ll see. I will more than likely find a way for those things, but be unable to figure out how to vacuum!!!

    • Kathy Racoosin says

      March 3, 2015 at 11:58 pm

I subscribe via email, so I guess the posts come a day behind. Luckily, I saw your video tonight on YouTube so I can check first thing tomorrow morning and start in with you. I have almost all the same coloring mediums as you because I am a total color junkie. . . Lol! Thank you for doing this, I need it right now more than ever. I heard you mention the hospital and doctors, I hope all is well there? Please let me know, I care!

Hi Maureen, I will be working hard so that the posts go live at the right time and won’t be a day behind. If I am organized I will probably let my post go live at 1 am or midnight if your up you go to my blog and see it before most. The mail of my post should come through at 9am? So everything should be current if that makes sense. So fun to hear you have most of the same supplies…we should have a good time.
My hubby is having double knee surgery next week…so that’s what I was referring to. EEk!!Since I let the cat out of the bag I will post about it. Thanks for caring so much and I am So happy you are taking the challenge.Hugs

This came at just the right time! I’m really looking forward to it, esp. since we don’t have to complete something everyday, but just color. I try to do something crafty everyday, but have been slipping the last couple of weeks. But now I’m back on track! I don’t have all the coloring mediums that you do, but that’s fine I love the ones I have. Posting things is a bit of a pain for me, so may not post everyday….could I upload the pic’s just every couple of days? Hope that everything is ok..you mentioned spending time in hospitals. Thanks for the inspiration!

    • Kathy Racoosin says

      March 3, 2015 at 11:47 pm

Hi Rufus I showed so many mediums in my video so that I can appeal to everyone hopefully but, you certainly don’t need all those goodies. If you have a blog you certainly don’t need to post what you are doing. This really is about finding the love of coloring again. If you want to share or link up that’s great too. 🙂 What ever works

What a wonderful challenge….I’m a bit late joining the party but I will participate as I can. Great ideas on getting organized! I have pens here there and everywhere! 😉
I do have a question…how do you ordinarily store your white Signo pen? I have tried cap up, cap down and horizontally and I still never seem to be able to get a full ink’s use out, if that makes sense. It rolls well at first and then gets gloppy (technical term) or skips.
    Thanks, Kathy!

    So excited…..
Sorry for my delayed response-this fun idea started when I was out of it in the hospital….

But, I LOVE it and am so excited to join the fun, as soon as I’m able to color, which should NOT be too much longer~~

    Yippee!!!

A friend sent me a link to your site and told me all about the coloring challenge. I have been coloring since I was a child. Then I had 4 years of art in high school besides all the art we did in grade school. When I got out of high school I was told I was to old to color anymore and coloring books were made for kids, not adults. Then I got hooked on stamping when I took classes in it. Of course with stamping comes coloring and I was in love again. I found a few companies that made coloring books for adults when I worked in retail but discovered Dover Publications has a bazillion and one coloring books. Now I can really color all the time and I do. I color a lot. I also stamp on clothing and I love to color that in too! The problem is my printer isn’t working. I don’t know if I need a new one or to have this one fixed so I can’t send you anything I am doing now. However, I have tons of things I have done saved on my computer if you would like to see something. Friends from card making web sites tell me my coloring is so good that I would love to show you. I am so glad I found this web site. It is so like me! I am so going to check you out further.

Hi Gail! Thanks for reaching out to me and sharing your story with me. You sound so talented!! Do you have a smart phone? That’s always a great way to share what you are up to. Just so you know I am not so good keeping in touch & answering emails. It’s a big fault that I am always trying to improve. Are you taking the coloring challenge? Thanks for reaching out and a warm welcome to you… so happy you found my blog 🙂

This is such a great idea Kathy 🙂 Anytime someone gives me permission to color, I know it will be a great day!! Seriously love it, so relaxing. I’ve been coloring daily but haven’t shared any yet 🙁 I have developed a strange phobia of uploading stuff, don’tknow why!!! Maybe today I will push myself to at least do Instagram!! Thanks Kathy for always inspiring and showing us that we don’t have to use the most expensive products to make something nice 🙂

Great idea Kathy. I love to color ever since I was a child many many moons ago. I just added a card that I watercolored yesterday. Actually I sketched the design instead of using a stamp. This is the first time I sketched anything. Didn’t know I could draw.
    Thanks again,

I just found your site (thanks to Pinterest) and I have been doing the 30 day color challenge without realizing that’s what I’ve been doing! My church is having a card sale in few weeks to help support missionaries, so I’ve been coloring up a storm! I try to color a little or a lot every day. My Copics and Distress markers have been getting quite the workout! I haven’t put anything together, yet. When I do I will post them on Instagram. Thanks for the encouragement!
