Day 8. Hero Arts 2016 Catalog Blog Hop

IMG_0795

Hello Friends. How was your weekend? Today I’m really honored to be taking part in the Hero Arts Catalog Blog Hop among such talented ladies PLUS I love Hero Arts and all that they stand for as a company.

HA 2016 Catalog Blog Hop

I have a video sharing how to work an image when the coloring goes awry.

IMG_1080

Thanks to some heavy weight vellum and some beautiful plaid paper my card finally came together. Love this flower called, “Antique Rose Stem“.

To watch the video larger click here.

IMG_1081 (1)

I layered up two of the flowers that I colored with some foam tape. For the prayer sentiment I used some black cardstock with fun foam underneath it.

IMG_1070

Coloring can be like trying on a pair of jeans…you have good and bad days. In the video I share some tips to work your coloring and find that happy place.

IMG_1073

I stamped the Rose with some black dye ink on vellum. Once the ink dried I glued the vellum down with a glue pen on Lawn Fawn’s beautiful new plaid paper. I cut another strip of the paper and added a strip of vellum on top to soften the pattern so the colored flower wouldn’t interfere with the paper.

IMG_1091

Hero Arts asked me to color a few of their flowers for the CHA trade show so I thought I would share them today.

Do you recognize this one? It’s the exact same flower I used in the video… “Antique Rose Stem” but, colored with Copics instead and on a good day lol.

IMG_1090

You can never have enough succulent stamps. These are called, “Potted Succulent” and “Small Potted Succulent” and they have matching die cuts.

IMG_1092

This flower is called, “Mum Stem” and it’s a winner in my book so great for so many applications.

  26. Jan D., FL says

    February 8, 2016 at 3:08 pm

Very clever tips in the video…using the kleenex and water to remove color is a great idea and using the Memento marker on the back of skinny pieces is very smart. I have always colored the edges of my fussy cut images, but would have never thought to do what you did…I’m so glad I know you….LOL

Beautiful card and your flowers and leaves are very pretty….don’t know why you are so hard on yourself.

  35. bev p says

    February 8, 2016 at 3:58 pm

I thought they were beautiful from the beginning! I am laughing because I am wearing pink and orange today! I can’t really wear orange, unless I want people to call an ambulance because I look like I’m dying of some dread disease, but I can do a coral or melon orange mixed with pink. It’s amazing how the color of a goodwill t-shirt can affect my mood all day! Thanks for all the tips about correcting things when they aren’t what I’m trying to do. And Jennifer’s right: sometimes it’s not what we had in our brain, but it’s still beautiful! I have tossed out some things because they didn’t turn out the way I wanted, but other people have loved them! See you tomorrow! Still looking for coordinating paper for the flowers I colored yesterday.

Kathy, I honestly thought the flowers were gorgeous but in saying that I completely know what you mean when you are not happy with what you’ve created, or perhaps it is more like we just didn’t get what we were looking for. Thank you for sharing this because it is good to know that us more inexperienced crafters aren’t the only ones who run into this issue. The final card is so pretty and I love the vellum and plaid. For all you do for our wonderful crafty community, a HUGE thank you Kathy!

I love what you did with all your cards. Mistakes? What mistakes? LOL I know what you mean. My friend John who hand marbles paper saves me his paper with what he calls mistakes. You really have to look carefully to even see what he calls mistakes and I have been able to find a few if I really, really, look but mostly I can’t find them. I’m happy he gives me his paper because it’s so beautiful but his mistakes aren’t really mistakes, like yours aren’t. I am so happy to be doing this hop! Everyone on here has done an amazing job. You should all be so proud of what you’ve done.

Thanks for sharing the process, Kathy. I know exactly what it feel likes to have to work it., which happens all too often. Loved to see how you kept going until you were reasonably happy with the result. I also agree with Jennifer that someone will like your colouring/card even if you’re not entirely happy with it. i also find that sometimes a card or a coloured image starts to grow on me if I look at it again after some time. It probably means we are often too hard on ourselves. I’ll try to keep that in mind when I go to my craft table today.

A great tip for softening the colours of papers and love the cute set you used too. I use to practice as a paediatric nurse and use to love it when we had babies in , not because they were ill but because they really do have a special smell, maybe its the baby talc or soap but when the babies your own its even more special.

I don’t color with markers but use my prisma color pencils or distress inks with blending tool…..what I’m trying to say in a round about way is I understand when coloring goes wrong and can be frustrating but when it comes together it is so satisfying.

    Saludos,
    Carmen

I definitely love the mum stamp. The succulents really surprise me. I wouldn’t normally be drawn to them, but these are wonderful. They’d be nice on a masculine card.
